Spring…a time of peace and renewal…
February 25, 2007or insanity? … While spring brings immediate thoughts of blooming flowers and birds returning from their winter homes, for many of us it can mean a bit of craziness. Tax time is looming and a renewed urge to become organized and efficient can easily take over a studio and design time. Many artists, and especially jewelry designers, find themselves rushing about trying to gather up receipts and spending days and nights taking inventory readying themselves for the day(s) with the tax forms.
Amidst this harried paperwork is also the urgency to debut spring lines and open new venues to connect with customers. Marketing strategies and juried show applications can all leave little time left to appreciate the “renewal of creativity” that should also come with the new season.
I believe that by preparing on a constant and habitual basis rather than in spurts of “business owner ADHD”, we can allow ourselves more time to appreciate the changes around us and to let the “birth of Spring” wrap itself around our artistic muses, and to set them free. I prefer the method of “on-going efficiency” which leaves me with much more time to do the things I really love to do- help YOU feel as beautiful as you inherently are.
So…rather than “falling prey” to the bad habits of the procrastinator, perhaps the Spring should, instead, be a time to set down resolutions of organization that stay solidly habitual throughout the year, and to truly allow yourself the time to appreciate your inner muse and beauty. Allow this time to be one to learn something new about yourself as well as about the world around you.
I hope that the impending change of seasons will find you with the same sense of wonder and peace that I will be trying to convey in my own work.
This piece has recently been returned to my collections, just in time for Spring! It was travelling the USA on a “Sent-A-Metal Journey” tour of Artisan jewelry. After being viewed across the country it is now back and available for purchase.
(This piece is #3 of a limited edition)

Be a rose in the garden…..Be beautiful.
Until next time…
